1998-03-15 18:56 GTK exploring

I started to explore the inner secrets of gtk, because I hate the fileselector of it. So, I made a little patch, and now it looks better (to me, at least =). If only the icons were a tad better ... anyway, you see the snapshot, and the patch is here, if anyone is willing to make it better. The patch is against gtk-0.99.3, but shouldn't be hard to use to newer gtk, either. One bug remains: I should probably discard the used gdk_pixmaps somewhere, but I don't. So, there may exist a small memory leakage.

Fixed one link, added two smaller icon packs, little html fixes and major site structure change. Hopefully things look better. Table width increased, but everything should be still visible even on 640x480-screen with browser width maximized. Not that I could surf the net with 640x480, but someone probably can and does. Lynx also works nice, except for the icon previews =)

BTW, go and check GNUstep project, they have released a new version of libraries and DGS. Their server is extremely busy at the moment, so try European mirror also.

Couple of hours, and I'm faring to Stockholm, Sweden. Just a quick visit, tho, one day there and back. I hope the tax-free doesn't tempt me too much, I don't have too much money ..

1998-03-06 21:07 Fonts, anyone?

I finally managed to make some fonts for my xterms. They look like these (two sizes, X-pcf-bitmap-fonts), and I'll give these free as soon as I complete the characters above 0xa0 ... in case someone wants also create fonts, I used xmbfded (motif fonteditor, but works with lesstif (albeit buggy: save often =) and bdftopcf.

Please, no comments like 'they look just like xxxxx' because I created them from scratch, and I've used similar font years ago on amiga (also by me, of course =) And why is the machine named 'evil'? Because it bit me (honestly!) when I was installing it.

Removed some obsolete tables in the icon previews, I think the pages look better now. In fact, I probably should check every page at nether and standardize them. Bleagh. I'm not feeling very good about it, the pages are about different things and they are not having any connections, and 'page residing at nether' isn't good enough reason for that (in my opinion, anyway).

I put some of my gimp xcf-files in unsorted, if some of the icons would be better if retouched a bit, feel free to edit them and send me the results.

Iconpack 3 is there. Hope you find the icons there usable and so on. Now I have about all icons I need ... Ideas, ideas, what do YOU want me to draw? I try to concentrate from now on legally free, GPL'd icons, made from scratch by me (and contributors, if any :I )

Well, iconpack 3 is making it's way. Icon here, icon there and soon I have the 40 in one place. You can check them in unsorted. You can check the upcoming icons in unsorted/isiconpack3.

I decided to put my optimal windowmanager here. I've fiddled with fvwm2 with couple of hours, and it got me very near of the ideal wm (in my opinion, ofcourse). Snapshot's here, as is the fvwm2rc also. The perfectionists can put the pixmaps in every flat surface, but I like it simpler. I just need to hack the iconify not to use the pixmaps, only titles ...
